What it builds

Five skills, disguised as an afternoon

Not a list of what's in the box, but what your child walks away with.

1

Processing

Taking in what they see, hear and touch, and making sense of it. Where every investigation starts.

2

Predicting

“What do you think happens next?” The question that turns play into reasoning.

3

Validating

Testing the guess against what actually happened, without fear of being wrong.

4

Comparing

Two objects, two results: what is the same, what is different, and why.

5

Inferencing

Drawing a conclusion nobody handed them. The skill that outlasts the box.

Why these five

They are the core scientific-thinking skills, and they transfer to every subject a child meets later.

Why we made this

One teacher. One scientist.

Vaishali Gupta spent twenty years in education watching bright children decide they were “bad at science”, usually before they were seven, and usually after being handed a worksheet.

The problem was never ability. It was that science arrived as a set of answers to memorise, instead of a question worth chasing.

So she built what she wanted for her own classroom: activities that need no lab, no screen, and no expertise from the adult in the room.

Every order funds the SLATE Program. 5% of what you spend puts learning materials into the hands of children who would otherwise go without.

Before you ask

Questions parents actually send us

Should we start all three levels at once?
No. Start with the level that matches your child's age and move up when the cards start to feel easy. Most families spread the set across several years.
Does it work for siblings of different ages?
Yes. Each child works at their own level from the same set.
Do we need special materials?
No. Every activity uses things already around the house, and the tips card asks you not to buy anything. Making do with what is at hand is exactly what builds an innovative mindset and practical, hands-on skill.
Can teachers use the set?
Yes. It builds a scientific temper in line with the curricular goals the NCF sets for the Foundational and Preparatory stages. Use the school quote form for 20 or more.
Who are these cards for?
Families who want to build thinking skills and a curious mind using the nooks and corners of home. Parents who want their child ready for the levels of thinking school expects. And teachers, who use the cards to design activity based homework in line with the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF).
Do I need to know any science?
No. Every card explains the activity step by step, lists what you'll need, and ends with questions to think and talk about. A tips card in the box shows you how to guide without doing it for them.
What do I need at home?
Things from around the house: water, a bucket, a mug, paper, a leaf, a torch, a shoebox. The tips card goes further: try not to buy anything, because making do with what is at hand is part of the lesson.
Does it work for one child, or do I need a group?
Both. An adult should be there to guide, and most activities work just as well with siblings or a class.
How long does one activity take?
Ten to twenty minutes for most. One activity a day is plenty, and many families save them for weekends.
Can I use these in a classroom?
Yes. They're used in classrooms and learning centres, and the card format suits stations and small-group rotation.
Are the activities safe?
A few use scissors, a knife or a paper cutter. Those are marked for adult help, and the tips card asks for adult supervision.
