Navigation and Map Making – Discovering the Science of Directions

Why Attend?

Maps are one of the most powerful tools ever created, yet most children only see them as printed diagrams in books. This immersive LIFE Walk, led by Vaishali Gupta, will teach children how to navigate the world around them by learning how maps are made, how to use them, and why they’re crucial for exploration.

Using a natural setting as their learning ground, children will work as real cartographers—understanding directions, symbols, scale, and landmarks through experiential learning.

What You Will Experience

  • Use observation and spatial reasoning to identify landmarks and directions.
  • Learn how to measure distances and scale using real-world references.
  • Create a basic hand-drawn map of the park, complete with symbols and directions.
  • Understand the history of navigation, from ancient explorers to modern GPS.
