What it builds

Reading that asks children to look, label and talk

Early literacy and scientific thinking on the same page.

1

Sounds to words

Hearing the sounds of letters and how they join up to make words.

2

Naming the world

Reading the names of real things at home, then finding them in the room.

3

Observation

Looking closely at a picture to decide where each word belongs.

4

Comparing and sorting

Sorting words by their sounds and foods by taste: sour, sweet, salty, bitter.

5

Communication

Saying what they see and why they chose it. Language and reasoning together.

Why stickers

Placing a sticker is a decision. The child has to read the word, find the real thing and choose where it goes, which is exactly the skill being built.

How it works

Read it. Find it. Stick it. Say it.

Every room gets a page: house, living room, bathroom, bedroom, cupboard, kitchen, classroom, toy box. The words come as stickers.

1
Read the words aloud

With an elder, read each sticker word aloud: sofa, lamp, toothbrush, pillow.

2
Point to it in the house

Find the real thing in the room. The book reminds you: ensure child safety at all times.

3
Stick it in the right place

Peel the sticker and put it on the picture, or in the right column.

4
Draw, colour and score

Draw and colour the objects, sort words by sounds like sk, sl and sp, and add up points in tens and ones.

In the box

  • Reading book, 46 pages
  • Sticker pages with the words for every room
  • Room pages: house, living room, bathroom, bedroom, cupboard and more
  • Sound, rhyme and scoring activities
  • Author's note for parents

Why we made this

One teacher. One scientist.

Vaishali Gupta spent twenty years in education watching bright children decide they were “bad at science”, usually before they were seven, and usually after being handed a worksheet.

The problem was never ability. It was that science arrived as a set of answers to memorise, instead of a question worth chasing.

So she built what she wanted for her own classroom: activities that need no lab, no screen, and no expertise from the adult in the room.

Every order funds the SLATE Program. 5% of what you spend puts learning materials into the hands of children who would otherwise go without.

Before you ask

Questions parents actually send us

Does my child need to read already?
No. It's built for children from age 5 who are just starting to read. An elder reads the words aloud alongside, and the stickers carry the rest.
How many stickers and pages are there?
46 activity pages, plus sticker pages at the back with the words for every room in colour-coded sets. Most words are printed twice.
Is it only reading?
No. Children also sort words by their sounds, talk about bitter, sour, salty and sweet foods, and add up their points in tens and ones.
